Detran (State Department of Traffic) is the body that manages land transport in the state in which it is located, in Brazilian territory. In the Federal District, Detran is an autarchy.
The Department of Motor Vehicles (Detran) oversees the correct enforcement of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) . In case of non-compliance, the agency applies the necessary sanctions.
In addition to this inspection, Detran holds auctions with vehicles that were seized due to non-payment.

Who can participate in the Detran Auction?
All people, individuals or legal entities, over 18 years of age, and who meet the requirements of the auction notice, can participate.
There are some exceptions for people who cannot participate in the Detran Auction, they are: individuals who are public servants assigned to the Detran itself, the Civil Police and the Military Police of each state; outsourced and contracted by Detran SP, the Civil and Military Police of each state.
Detran Auctions take place both in person and online.
What is the Detran Auction like?
The Detran auction operates like any other regulated auction.
The vehicles auctioned are used, with variations in their mechanical condition and external appearance. It is possible to find motorcycles that have been used for a long time and are practically new.
Motorcycles acquired at the Detran auction can be used for personal use or for resale . After purchasing at the auction, it is possible to sell the motorcycle without major restrictions, but of course, all vehicles are sold below the FIPE table price.
The Detran of each state provides a list of motorcycles to be auctioned, with the lots and details of documentation and possible damage.
The motorcycles sold at auction are vehicles that have delayed licensing or were caught in a traffic stop and then seized due to some irregularity, such as debts not settled within 60 days.
How is payment made for the Detran Auction?
The auction categories, online or in person, work like a conventional auction, with the highest bidder winning.
The vehicles or lots of vehicles are offered for cash payment.
In the in-person auction format, the winning bidder must leave a check with the auction committee for the total value of the vehicle purchased.
In the online modality, at the time of registration, the participant signs a contract and is subject to the penalties established in Law No. 8666/92.
After the participant's winning bid, the Commission issues a bank slip with the total sale amount, which will be given to the winning bidder. The winning bidder will have 5 (five) business days to make the full payment for the purchase.
A provisional receipt valid until the date of issuance of the Bill of Sale is provided by the auctioneer.
