New Identity Card

Adhering to the new Identity Card will be a long process, and there is no rush for the transition, making it a smooth process for the population. Therefore, the completion deadline is next year.

The idea of the new document is that it becomes easier for people to use a single document that contains all their necessary data, without the need to upload several documents. The change was foreseen in Decree number 10.977 since February this year.

After the decree was issued, new rules for issuing the new document were established. At the moment, only the state of Rio Grande do Sul is issuing the document.

The Ministry of Justice is working to extend the adoption to other Brazilian states and the Federal District. Therefore, all states should offer the document migration service by March 2023.

Purpose of changing the Identity Card

The main objective for this change in documents is to reduce bureaucracy . Each state has its own document numbering system, so people could register in each state.

Thus, with this change, governments hope to start counting, putting an end to document fraud.

Identity cards will have a digital version, as will the National Driver's License , among others.

There will, however, be a requirement that, for the person to issue their document online, they must first issue the physical document. This prevents the person from only having the digital document, as the physical version is for security.

How to issue the new Identity Card?

All requirements are yet to be announced by the government, but among those that are already known are having the CPF fully regularized before issuing the new National Identity Card.

Therefore, people who have problems with the Internal Revenue Service will have to resolve their outstanding issues before issuing the new document.

So, until we know all the steps necessary to migrate the new document, go to the Federal Revenue website and check if there is any pending issue to be resolved.
